Kerri and I (Mike) wanted some time together and wanted to do a long motorcycle ride...So we combined the two. This is the story of our 2700 mile bike ride from Colorado Springs to Chicago, then down Route 66 to New Mexico and back up to Colorado Springs. Many stops along the way and lots of places we have never been!

Second day
We woke up from a rough night of sleep due to thunderstorms and high, high winds. Mike thought he heard tornado sirens going off in the middle of the night. I didn't hear those over my snoring. Lol. Finally after a couple of hours (after might) the winds completely died down. Quite scary actually. The calm after the storm is always worse. But we woke up this morning, the bike was still standing and the tent was in one piece.
We scared ourselves this morning as well. We list $500!!!!. Mike put it in the trailer but we couldn't find it this morning while packing. Getting scared because that was the bulk of our cash on hand....took everything back out of the trailer we had just packed. The money was no where to be found. We were so upset because the only today could have happened is that it flew out while we we're fixing the trailer yesterday. One last place to look.....clothes bag.....low and behold our little envelope of money!!!! 30 minutes later we could breathe again.

Day one wrap up
Only trip issues today...wind and gas...
The wind was horrible and it didn't help with the big trucks going by...fairly knocked us all over the road, but the bike did great and thee extra weight of the trailer actually helped.
Somethings not right with my gas milage...first tank was 32mpg...about what I expected pulling the trailer but the next three were: 22.9, 22, 17.9. That can't be right. The wind was bad, not that bad...only thing I can think of is we were running about 75 to 80 mph most of the last three fills but only about 55 to 65 for first fill. Going to try going slow first fill tomorrow and see what happens..
All in all a great first day!
